Confessions at Dawn

Price range: $1,000.00 through $3,500.00

At the 2004 Maafa Festival in Far Rockaway, I witnessed dawn’s sacred power. As the sun rose over the Atlantic, two celebrants shared a silent confession—words carried only to God and the wind. It was a moving reminder of ancestry, forgiveness, renewal, and the blessings of life itself.

Description

Confessions at Dawn

The Maafa Festival of 2004 at Far Rockaway in Queens, NY, has many stories to tell. After the sun had risen, many celebrants took this spiritual opportunity of purging secrets within their souls. It was a time for reverence, another day had brought us together with the spirits of our ancestors, a time to rejoice in the blessings of life, renew friendships and ask God for forgiveness of sins committed in the dark and the light. As the sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean, these two celebrants of the Mafaa Festival (a tribute to Africans who died in the Middle Passage) formed a spiritual conversation overheard only by God and the wind.
