around, collect and loan market/business men and women money. Living at #4
Kalajayie Street in Igbobi, Lagos, in the early 1980s, I saw this man every day making
notations in a brown ledger tucked away in his green shoulder bag, keeping account of
the amount of money loaned and collected.

remember correctly, it didn’t rain whatsoever during my two-week stay in 2001. I had
driven from NYC, so learning and getting around this South Carolina Island eventually
